To change the settings on your clock right click on the clock and then configure world clock. The format drop down menu allows you to change how the clock shows. To sleect a short format allows you to have a preselected short format which shows a 12 hour format and am just telling you what time it is. Selecting long from the menu will show you the time with seconds and the time zone.
